When I first began my gluten free diet about 4 years ago, one of the first places I discovered that I could still go to is Texas Roadhouse, forever giving them a warm place in my heart. However, back on March 16, 2009, we were disappointed to report that the Texas Roadhouse had since cancelled their gluten free menu.
After reviewing their official website today, it looks like they now have the following message posted (on their contact page, click gluten free menu):
We are sorry but we no longer offer our gluten-free menu. It was a very difficult decision, but we concluded that due to the multi-use of utensils, supplier changes, substitutions or the possibility of human error, we could not offer our guests a total assurance that the items were indeed 100% gluten-free. As such, we decided that the best approach was for the management team at each restaurant to work with guests individually to ensure that they can make the most informed menu decisions. Please ask to speak to the managing partner, who will be happy to accommodate any requests or provide information about our food and preparation. Thank you for your interest in Texas Roadhouse.
In other words, they still have a gluten free menu and a knowledgable staff, they are just handling these requests at the local restaurant level and protecting themselves in cause someone gets cross-contaminated (glutened) on accident.
We can confirm that since this announcement a few months ago, we have eaten at the Texas Roadhouse several times without any troubles, so if you decide to eat at Texas Roadhouse, just let your server and their manager know about your gluten free needs. Oh, and for anyone wondering if there is one in your area, you can find the closest location here.
