I just read some great news for pastry lovers! According to a published report, it looks like Starbucks coffeehouses, which can be found on every other street corner throughout the United States, will now be offering a new gluten free pastry, according to Forbes.com.
According to the article, the pastry, called Valencia Orange Cake, will be made with seven ingredients which are all 100% gluten free. The cake will be sold in individually wrapped packages for $2.25 each and will be available beginning on May 5, 2009.
Here is what Starbucks had to say with their announcement:
“I think one of the things we learned right from the get-go from our gluten-free customers is they can’t eat away from home very easily,” said Adrienne Knapp, a product manager in the food category at Starbucks. “A cake is actually really hard to find for someone that’s a gluten-free consumer.”
It is good to see that Starbucks is listening to their customers (or potential customers) feedback!

I think they discontinued that one… very sad day for us
The did discontinue it…we were in Europe for 4 months, mostly London, and EVERY Starbucks had 2 gluten free items – a delicious double fudge cake – which really was like a brownie, and the orange cake. They often had marshmallows dipped in chocolate too. I don’t know why they would discontinue it here – I live in a small town and I personally know 5 families with gluten free kids just here…we all loved those things.
