Thanks to a heads up from reader Liz, it looks like the Logan’s Roadhouse in Bristol, Virginia offers a gluten free menu for their customers. As always, when readers submit information, we also prefer to receive a testimonial as well to describe their experience dining at the restaurant.

Here is what Liz had to say about her visit to this particular Logan’s Roadhouse:

Three friends and I ate at Logan’s Roadhouse in Bristol, VA, today. I was a little leery because I couldn’t find any information about gluten or allergies on the company website. However, I was delighted to discover that the restaurant chain has a company-wide program in place to accommodate people with food allergies, including gluten intolerance.

After I mentioned to my waitress that I couldn’t eat gluten, the manager came over to the table and gave me a printed gluten-free menu. He also personally oversaw the preparation of my meal in the kitchen, including making sure my chicken was not basted with the same brush used for other foods. I ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken, and really enjoyed it, knowing it was completely clean.

After reviewing their official website, however, I was unable to locate a digital copy of their gluten free menu, so you may want to call ahead before visiting any Logan’s Roadhouse locations just to be sure they are a participating restaurant like the one Liz visited!

If you’d like to share your experience with local restaurant menus in your area, please contact us!

Are you a Celiac looking to travel to the Chicago area in the near future? Our friend Vanessa of Celiac Princess recently took a trip to Chicago, and upon her return, shared her thoughts on her trip, which included visits to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, Marcello’s: A Father and Son Restaurant, and Adobo Grill.

Here is Vanessa’s review of her to trip to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria:

The first piece of gluten-free pizza I had in Chicago was from Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. Lou Malnati’s is thePA240003 one of the oldest family pizza restaurants in Chicago, dating back to the 1940s. Lou Malnati’s if famous for its deep-dish pizza that is handmade and each pizza is prepared to the customer’s specification. In my case, I needed a gluten-free pizza, which I thought might be a problem for a pizza place, but not Lou Malnati’s! There is a Crustless Deep Dish Pizza available that is certified gluten-free on the menu and is delicious! The crustless pizza is made from a large round sausage base and can be topped with all of the same toppings as any regular pizza! Lous Malnati’s came highly reccommended to me before I left on my trip and I have to say that I definitely agree…it is delicious!

Looking for a restaurant that offers a gluten free menu in Florida? Florida seems to be one of the fastest growing places for gluten free awareness, so a lot of restaurants are starting to offer gluten free menus.

One such restaurant is the Stonewood Grill & Tavern, which has 16 total locations in Florida with two in the Central Florida area. Here are the Central Florida Stonewood restaurant locations:

Orlando
5078 Dr. Phillips Blvd.
Orlando, FL 32819
(407) 297-8682

Heathrow
1210 International Parkway South
Heathrow, FL 32746
(407) 333-3292

The Examiner recently posted a review of Stonewood’s gluten free menu, and it looks like it was a great experience:

As we were seated I asked the hostess if Stonewood had a gluten free menu. She suggested that I ask the server. Not a great start. When the server came, I inquired again and received the standard response as mentioned earlier. She returned to the table with the GF menu in her hand (the menu that read ‘please keep in the kitchen, do not hand to customer’) and I rejoiced at the inclusiveness of our family’s favorite restaurant.

The gluten free menu consists of appetizers, salads, fish and steak. Beautiful sides complimented the fresh and flavor-filled entrees.

As always, the service, wine and food were outstanding. Stonewood remains one of my favorite places to eat, even if only for special occasions because of the upscale nature of the restaurant. The experience is worth it.

There are a number of great restaurant chains in the United States that offer a gluten free menu. One of the more popular pizza restaurants within the Celiac community is UNO’s Chicago Grill. Most of their locations throughout the United States offer gluten free pizzas (cheese or pepperoni), as well as many other gluten free foods (examples include a gluten free sundae, a top Sirloin Steak, Chop House Classic, Lemon Basil Salmon, and a Baby and Grilled Mahi-Mahi with Mango Salsa). If you are interested, you can see everything they offer that is gluten free here.

When Gluten Free Restaurants was created, one of the things we wanted to do was feature restaurant reviews found around the web. Once recent review we ran across was a guest post over at Gluten Free Inspired which reviewed a recent visit to UNO’s Chicago Grill:

I was apprehensive about ordering the gf pizza, because after 44 years on the gf diet, I still thought, “What if they get the pizzas mixed up and I get one with gluten. I can’t afford to get sick!” I always tell the hostess that I want a gf menu which saves time and works out best from my experience. The hostess whipped out a colorful gf menu. I then explained my apprehension to my waitress. She assured me that the manager would serve my gf pizza, which should dispel my greatest fears! The manager not only served my gf pizza, but he assured me that UNOS has a dedicated corner of their kitchen just for preparing gluten-free meals in order to avoid cross-contamination. That was great news!

Never in my wildest dreams could I envision 44 years ago that you could go into a national chain and order gf pizza and one so reasonable. The cheese pizza was $11.49.

Sounds like Jane had a great experience at UNO’s Chicago Grill. Have you tried any of their gluten free menu items yet? Share your experience in the comments!

Recently we discovered a gluten free menu on the official Outback Steakhouse website which can be viewed here. When Gluten Free Restaurants was created, one of the things we wanted to do was feature restaurant reviews found around the web. One recent review I found was over at Gluten Free DFW, which offered the following about their visit to Outback Steakhouse:

I had a very satisfying dinner there just this past weekend and was very impressed with their service and attention to gluten-free detail. They remembered not to put the seasonings on my veggies, etc.

The menu is very detailed and includes mixed-drinks and miraculously some fabulous desserts including their infamous Chocolate Thunder from Down Under. Unfortunately, due to trying to be calorie conscious, I didn’t sample it this time. If you’re looking to splurge on your diet while staying gluten free, though, this is the place to go!

Have you tried Outback Steakhouse? Let us know how your experience was in the comments!

Restaurant Review: Portofino Restaurant (formerly known as Portobello) offers gluten-free pasta and pizza crust; you just need to call two hours in advance for the pizza. I tried the fettuccine portobello ($14.95), which featured sliced portobello mushrooms, zucchini, and goat cheese in a creamy, silky tomato sauce. If you’ve cooked with rice pasta, you know it can be difficult to achieve the desirable “al dente” consistency. But Portofino does it right, without a hint of mushiness.

I always get the vegetale, topped with homemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and marinated artichokes. ($7.50 for a four-slice personal pizza). Don’t forget about the gelato!
