Ruth’s Chris Gluten Free Menu

Over the past couple weeks we’ve received several requests that we research Ruth’s Chris steakhouse and publish any known gluten-free information.  Because this steakhouse is found all throughout the United States it made sense for it to be the next restaurant featured here on Gluten-Free Restaurants

Unfortunately, a review of their official website didn’t uncover any official gluten-free menu information so I decided to do some additional research and see what I can find.   Steakhouses typically have several foods which can easily be prepared gluten-free and it appears that Ruth’s Chris steakhouse is no exception.

Biaggi’s Gluten-Free Menu

Biaggi’s is a large restaurant chain which recently came to my area, so I was excited to hop online and learn that they offer a gluten-free menu (PDF) on their official website in a conveniently printable format.

So far I’ve only been able to go once (it is a little pricey) but the food was excellent.   I had the Spaghetti Marinara which was very good.    Next time I go back, I plan on trying one of their gluten-free pizzas which it appears they make themselves.

Cafe Fraiche in Louisville, Kentucky Offers Gluten-Free Menu

The gluten-free restaurant submissions continue to roll in, this time a submission for a restaurant in Louisville Kentucky called Cafe Fraiche.   This restaurant is owned and operating by someone with celiac disease, so you know that the staff is educated on the concerns of cross-contamination.

I was not able to locate a gluten-free menu on their official website, but according to the submitter, Cafe Fraiche offers many gluten-free dishes including sandwiches on gluten-free bread and several tasty desserts.   If you decide to visit this restaurant, it is recommended that you request to speak with the owner.

Gluten Free Restaurants in Framingham, Massachusetts

Many chain restaurants offer gluten-free options these days, and the chain restaurants in Framingham, Massachusetts are no exception.  Chain restaurants in Framingham or right across the border in neighboring Natick that also have gluten-free menus including the following:

  • Bugaboo Creek
  • Chipotle
  • P.F. Changs
  • Olive Garden

There are other chain restaurants with gluten-free options, of course, such as Outback Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, Carrabba’s, and other major chains, but none of those major restaurant facilities are located in the Framingham or Natick area.

Local Restaurants with Gluten Free Menus in Framingham, Massachusetts

Local restaurants or small, “mini-chain” regional restaurants can be an outstanding source for gluten-free dining in Framingham.  These local restaurants can accommodate personal needs, and often the chef works from the restaurant’s special recipes – not from some formula offered by a major chain.  Local restaurants with gluten-free options include:

  • Aegean restaurant (Greek food, easy to order gluten free)
  • Big Fresh
  • Fresh City
  • Naked Fish
  • Paparazzi’s (rice pasta available)
  • Pepperoncini’s (gluten-free pizza)

Other Gluten Free Dining Choices in Framingham

Most people wouldn’t think to consider some odd choices, like eating the prepared food at Whole Foods Market.  The food is all labeled and you can select your own gluten-free options.  Many grocery stores have salad bars that can be helpful for gluten-free dining.  Just watch out for cross-contamination.  Stick to fruits, vegetables, and cheese.

Consider Starbucks in a pinch, as well.  Many Starbucks now have fresh fruit and cheese platters in their cooler sections, and the crackers, though not gluten free, are packaged and separate from the rest of the safe food.

Dining choices for people with celiac or other gluten issues can be difficult, but not in Framingham!  Use this list to help when you’re traveling in the Framingham, Massachusetts area and need a gluten-free restaurant option.

Cracker Barrel’s Gluten Free Menu

When it comes to tracking down gluten-free restaurant information, some companies are excellent to work with while many others are difficult to get any official information from.  Cracker Barrel is the latter, making it difficult to find any verified gluten-free menu information, either via phone call or their official website.

So, does Cracker Barrel offer anything that is safe to eat for those of us on a gluten-free diet?   Surely the answer is yes, although they may be hesitant to put anything official in writing.    So far the only thing I’ve been able to find that has any value is the following information provided by a Cracker Barrel restaurant manager:

Meats:

  • Steak 10oz. Ribeye and Sirloin (You’ll need to request that these steaks and any other meats are not cooked on the “pancake/Bun/Sourdough Bread area of the grill”.  Sometimes the cooks just don’t know what the meat only grill is for. )
  • Hamburger and Kids Burgers (no bun)
  • Sugar Cured Ham
  • Country Ham
  • Bacon
  • Grilled Chicken Tenders (unmarinated)
  • Grilled Catfish (no seasoning)
  • Grilled Trout (no seasoning)
  • Pork Chops (grilled only)
  • Turkey (request it be grilled as the dinner cut is baked in gravy when prepared for dinners, but it can be cut fresh from the breast and grilled)

Veggies:

  • Corn
  • Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Turnip Greens
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Boiled Cabbage (Sunday offering)
  • Boiled Red-skinned Potatoes (Tuesday offering)
  • Sweet Potato Casserole (Thursday offering)
  • Baby Lima Beans (Saturday offering)
  • Applesauce
  • Baked Potato (risky as prepped in the same area as croutons)
  • Fried Apples (though you may want to avoid these as they sit on the steamtable right in front of the hashbrown casserole that contains gluten in the soup base. Cooks have been known to drop bits of the hashbrown into the apples in the process of serving up plates.)
  • Seasoned Rice (Saturday offering minus the baked chicken that it is served with, just tell them you want the rice as a veggie.)

Breakfast:

  • Grits
  • Eggs

Salads:

Cracker Barrel uses T. Mazetti dressings for most salad dressings.  Their fat free dressings (FF Italian, FF Ranch, FF Honey Mustard, FF Thousand Island) are also from T. Mazetti, and come served to your table in a packet, so you can just read the ingredients on the labels.

  • Sirloin Salad (no croutons)
  • Un-Marinated Grilled Chicken Salad (no croutons)
  • Turkey Salad (no croutons)
  • Chef Salad (no croutons)
  • House Salad (no croutons)
  • Tossed Salad (no croutons)

Desserts:

  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

** The beef consumee used in making brown rice (Friday offering) has wheat listed on the can. The brown rice is NOT safe.

The manager also recommends avoiding all foods that are fryed at Cracker Barrel locations.   The complete post and additional information can be read here.

I’ve also read some reviews from gluten-free diners at Cracker Barrel locations and the reviews have been mixed, so hopefully the information provided above helps!   Please remember to make sure to educate your server about your dietary needs.

Sonic’s Gluten Free Menu

Sonic Drive In is a growing restaurant chain found all throughout the United States so it only makes sense that we’ve been getting a lot of inquiries lately regarding whether or not they offer a gluten-free menu.  Based upon my initial research online, it looks like Sonic does not offer any gluten-free diet information in print or on their official website, but they do have an official allergen listing which can be found here (PDF).

With that said, we like to be a little more thorough than that and were able to get a company representative at Sonic to give the following list of gluten-free items (they said they are only able to provide a list verbally at this time, nothing is available in writing):

  • Bacon
  • Breakfast sausage patty
  • Egg patty (may be contaminated from cooking on the same griddle as gluten-filled foods)
  • Hamburger (no bun)
  • Hot Dog (no bun)
  • Sliced American cheese
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Pepperjack cheese
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Marinara sauce
  • Salad dressings (all varieties)
  • Shake mix (shakes may be made in the same container as malts. Ask the staff to clean the container to prevent cross-contamination)
  • Softserve ice cream
  • Hershey’s chocolate syrup
  • Butterfinger, M&M, Reese’s Pieces, and whipped toppings
  • Route 44 drinks (all flavors)
  • Slushes, all flavors in the usual menu

Note: The representative also advised that Sonic’s Tater Tots and French fries are in fact gluten-free, however there may be cross-contamination issues from being fried with gluten-containing menu items.  If you decide to try either of these items please confirm with your local Sonic location that they use a dedicated fryer to avoid a problem.
